Goodbye, Doll Awarded At The Magma Short Film Festival

The short film produced by 29Letras and directed by Hugo Sanz, Goodbye, Doll (Adiós, muñeca), has been awarded at the Magma Short Film Festival of Rotorua (New Zealand). Goodbye, Doll has won two more prizes in this festival as well.

The biggest prize at the Magma Short Film Festival of Rotorua (New Zealand), the Magma Supreme Award, has gone to the Spanish short film Goodbye, Doll (Adiós, muñeca), directed and written by Hugo Sanz. Additionally, this production by 29Letras has won the Best International Film Award as well as the Best International Film Award for Screenplay for Hugo Sanz, director of the film.

The Magma Short Film Festival 2011 was run from April 28th to May 1st in the city of Rotorua, placed in the North Island of New Zealand. The winners were unveiled a few hours ago. Besides Goodbye, Doll by Hugo Sanz, this New Zealander festival has stood out two shorts from Spain: Un novio de mierda, directed by Borja Cobeaga and El ambidiestro by Antonio Palomino Rodríguez.

45 short films coming from all over the world had competed at this festival. Besides New Zealander shorts, this contest showed films from Australia, Poland, Spain, Germany, Iran, Italy, France, UK, Estonia, Peru, Belgium, Switzerland, and USA. The presence of Latin American and Spanish films was very high: a short coming from Peru and seven from Spain, the highest number following New Zealander films.

• Best NZ Direction: Zoe McIntosh for Day Trip.
• Best NZ Screenplay: James Blick for Roof Rattling.
• Best NZ Self Funded Film: Only Son by Nigel McCulloch, Ryan Hutchings & Jared Holt.
• Best NZ Self Funded Film for Direction: Alan Brash for Be Careful...
• Best NZ Self Funded Film for Screenplay: Nigel McCulloch, Ryan Hutchings & Jared Holt for Only Son.
• Best International Film: Adiós, muñeca by Hugo Sanz.
• Best International Film for Direction: Simon Williams & Brendan Skinner for Toot Toot.
• Best International Film for Screenplay: Hugo Sanz for Adiós, muñeca by Hugo Sanz.
• Best Animation Award: Paths of Hate by Damian Nenow.
