The lastest short film by Mauricio Franco, El segundo amanecer de la ceguera (The Second Awakening of Blindness), is eligible for the Golden Bear for the Best International Short Film at Berlinale 2010.

The Spanish short film El segundo amanecer de la ceguera (The Second Awakening of Blindness) has been selected for the 60th Berlinale Festival. The lastest short film by Mauricio Franco will compete in the coming German festival inside the Berlinale Shorts Competition.

Selected from more then 2,600 short flm entries, El segundo amanecer de la ceguera by Mauricio Franco is one of the exclusive 25 short flms, coming from 15 different countries, that the well-known German festival has chosen for its renowned short flm contest. The Mauricio Franco's work will contend for the prestigious Golden Bear for Best International Short Film.

The 60th Berlinale International Short Film Jury is chaired by the Brazilian flmmaker Carvalhosa Zita. German Max Dax and Polish Xawery Żuławksi are also members of the Jury. The Award Ceremony will be on Tuesday, Feb. 16th.

The coming Berlinale begins on next Feb. 11th and fnishes on Feb. 21th. will be screened on Feb. 12th or 13th (the exact date will be disclosed by the Festival board in the coming days). The Mauricio Franco's short flm will be shown three times more from Sunday, Feb. 14th until 20th.

Mauricio Franco has been invited by Berlinale Festival board to attend to these screenings.

El segundo amanecer de la ceguera is distributed by [ The House of Films ].

Filmed in HD in Madrid (Spain), El segundo amanecer de la ceguera tackles about the boredom that destroys many couples of lovers, coming to the point where they feel each other like a stranger. The main roles are played by the renowned Cuban actress Orisel Gaspar and by Cuban director and actor Abel Fowler.

Mauricio Franco is a young flmmaker born in Lima (Peru). Two of his previous works, Barrunto (flmed in Lima) and Zoomanidad (shot in Madrid) were very well received. Barrunto won the Best Award at the Peruvian Festival “La noche de los cortos” (The Night of Shorts), while Zoomanidad won the Best Award at the Fundación Universitaria San Pablo CEU Creativity Contest in Spain.

Since 2004, Mauricio Franco lives in Madrid where he came to master in flmmaking. He currently works as video editor.
